Meta-matrices

Article Abstract:

Big electronic-mail (E-Mail) networks are proliferating at a rapid pace, with a half-dozen varieties of wide-area networks in existence. Internet is the largest all-purpose worldwide meta-network. The Internet protocol is accepted internationally and intended for decentralized use and to link heterogeneous systems. Users pay no more to send 1,000 messages to Japan than to send 10 to Boston; lower-end users typically pay a one-time installation fee for a dedicated phone line and telecommunications equipment. Internet features dedicated communications links, leased phone lines of 56K-bits to 1.5M-bps and T1 capacity of 1.5M-bps; T3 route capacity is 45M-bps. Another large network, FidoNet, is a telephone-based relay network. Users make calls on public phone lines at regular intervals to forward E-mail.

The great narcissist: a study of Fitzgerald's Jay Gatsby

Article Abstract:

The character of Jay Gatsby in F. Scott Fitzgerald's 'The Great Gatsby' exhibits symptoms of pathological narcissism. Gatsby has an inflated ego-ideal with themes of perfection and omnipotency. His sense of entitlement is typical of narcissism, as are his exploitiveness and grandiosity. His attempt to relive his love affair with Daisy Buchanan represents a belief in an omnipotent control of time. Gatsby's death in his swimming pool parallels the classical myth of Narcissus.
