The identification of pervasive hyperactivity: is clinic observation necessary?

Article Abstract:

A study investigated the behavioral, developmental and cognitive functioning of three groups of hyperactive children and a normal control group. The hyperactive children were divided into three groups: clinic observed, reported and situational. Results did not find any significant difference between the clinic observed and reported groups on any of the variables. The study found lower level of activity and fewer behavioral and social problems among situationally hyperactive children compared to pervasively active children. Findings revealed a distinction between pervasive and situational hyperactivity, but not between clinic observable and reported hyperactivity.

Contributing factors in the manifestation of aggression in preschoolers with hyperactivity

Article Abstract:

A study of the family backgrounds of 63 preschoolers with varying degrees of hyperactivity revealed that preschoolers with hyperactivity and aggression had restrictive parents, and mothers who displayed open physical aggression toward their spouses. Such children had fathers who used verbal attacks against their spouses and siblings with extreme aggressive intent.
