The looking-glass self in family context: A social relations analysis

Article Abstract:

Family relationships are useful in studying the hypothesis of how one is perceived by significant others determines one's view of the self. The accuracy of young people's perceptions of how they are viewed by their parents was investigated, using social relations analysis. College students were found to be most accurate in their metaperceptions of father, and adolescents showed generalized accuracy in their metaperceptions of cooperation, partially supporting a modified version of Symbolic Interaction Theory.

Examining the validity of self-report assessments of family functioning: A question of the level of analysis

Article Abstract:

The concept of level validity is introduced, that is, whether an assessment measures family functioning at the level that it was intended to measure. It is suggested that level validity should be tested and reported along with other aspects of construct validity before accepting such measures as valid assessments of family functioning.
