The poverty game and the pension game: the role of reciprocity

Article Abstract:

Nearly no proof for reciprocity was found in the study of the force of the reciprocity norm in gift giving experiments wherein mutual gift giving is efficient. The gifts provided are not connected to the gifts obtained. This finding applies evenly to the Poverty Game, wherein player 1 gives to player 2 and vice versa, and the Pension Game, wherein player 2 gives to player 1, player 3 gives to player 2, player 4 gives to player 3, and so on. Even so, there were significant levels of gift giving and they are higher in the Pension Game than in the Poverty Game.

Lay people's cognitive models of the economy

Article Abstract:

Human preferences and views on economic behavior are necessary to evaluate the government's social programs and strategies. A questionnaire and a subsequent cognitive model was used in a survey of 95 Australian citizens. The conclusive data has shown that lay people do not possess adequate information about the economics of taxation and government spendings. The resulting cognitive model produced a contradictory conclusion. This discrepancy is attributed to the constraints of the questions that were utilized in the questionnaire.
