The psychology of Thai delinquent youth: a study of self-perception, ego defense, and personality traits

Article Abstract:

Researchers know little about the mental and emotional state of delinquent adolescents in Thailand. In this study they surveyed 400 incarcerated youths, 300 boys 100 girls, and 400 nonadjudicated from similar backgrounds. Among delinquents, researchers found that girls were less self confident but had better social skills and were more aware of their feelings. The self-perception of delinquents were masked by feeling of impulsiveness and being misunderstood by family members.
