Antisocial, angry, and unsympathetic: 'Hard-to-manage' preschoolers' peer problems and possible cognitive influences

Article Abstract:

Dyadic interactions with friends were examined in preschool-age disruptive children. The hard to manage group exhibited higher rates of antisocial behavior and negative emotions compared with controls, and showed lower rates of emphatic/prosocial responses. Angry and antisocial behavior was linked to poor executive control.

The relationship between vocabulary, grammar, and false belief task belief task performance in children with autistic spectrum disorders and children with moderate learning difficulties

Article Abstract:

The relationship between language and theory of mind in children with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) and children with moderate learning difficulties (MLD) is examined. It is found that language, in particular grammar, and theory of mind appear to be more strongly related in children with ASD than in those with MLD.

Trick or treat?: Uneven understanding of mind and emotion and executive dysfunction in 'hard-to-manage' preschoolers

Article Abstract:

Impaired social relations are characteristic of school-aged children with disruptive behaviour disorders. Three areas of possible dysfunction in younger children were explored in 40 preschoolers, rated by their parents as hard to manage (H2M). They were compared to a control group on a range of theory of mind tasks, emotion understanding stories and simple executive function tasks. H2M preschoolers lacked understanding of emotion and executive control, but had better understanding of the belief-dependency of emotion.
