The role of measurement, some statistics, and some factor analysis in family psychology research

Article Abstract:

It is important to consider the ratio of the number of variables to the number of partipants and sample size when carrying out family psychology research. Correlation-based regression equations should be used to make all predictions, as problems are caused by the use of quotients of variables and gain scores. It is not advisable to use factor analyses of test items, while there are problems involved in the use of statistical tests. Family psychology involves key measurement principles, such as measurements are not simply combined.

Errors in probability updating behaviour: measurement and impact analysis

Article Abstract:

Deviations were noted between the Bayesian posterior and a significant number of cases probability updating. Such deviations were affected by the characteristics of messages associated with probability updating error, namely precision, reliability, relevance and timeliness. Each of the characteristics considered was found to affect the updating process' error in at least a few instances.

Feared stimuli are expected in specific situations: the use of situationalism and fear expectancy in a self-report measurement of fears

Article Abstract:

Administration of Wildland Fear Expectancy Scale to 1337 middle and high school students in southeastern US who were about to tour forested regions shows that an expectancy approach and reference to a particular case provides deviations from previous generic fear studies. The obstacles in using an expectancy approach are discussed.
