Validation of scales measuring attitudes and norms related to mammography screening in women veterans

Article Abstract:

Validation of psychosocial measures for use in mammography screening research is studied by finding independent measures for four constructs, pros, cons, cancer worries, and one social influence construct, subjective norms. The findings support that these scales have acceptable psychometric properties, provide evidence for construct validity, and offer brief, reliable, and valid measures of attitudes toward and norms regarding mammography screening.

Predictors of perceived susceptibility of breast cancer and changes over time: a mixed modeling approach

Article Abstract:

The predictors of breast cancer susceptibility, such as demographic, health behavior, heath status, knowledge, affect and subjective norm variables are examined. Results indicate that greater cancer worry and breast symptoms result to increased perceived breast cancer susceptibility. The use of breast symptoms and cancer worry as targets for messages in influencing women's perception of susceptibility is also analyzed.
