Weight requirements for catch-up growth in girls with eating disorders and onset of weight loss before menarche

Article Abstract:

A study investigated catch-up in stature in girls with eating disorders and onset of weight loss and stunted growth before menarche. Catch-up growth is found to be possible in girls with eating disorders before menarche, for which weight gain is necessary and should start at the right age to have full effect as it takes several years to evolve.

Sociocultural influences on attitudes to weight and eating: results of a natural experiment

Article Abstract:

The hypothesis that greater exposure to older girls at school would be associated with thinner size ideals, increased concern about weight and more dieting is tested. The study conducted for this purpose shows that exposure to older girls in school may accelerate the development of negative attitudes to weight and eating.

The relation between weight overestimation and symptoms of disordered eating behaviors was examined using a national level sample of young women. The findings suggest that there is both motivational and perceptual bias for overestimating weight among those with disordered eating behaviors.
