When trauma strikes the soul: shame, splitting, and psychic pain

Issues discussed concern how analysts address adult manifestations of child abuse trauma, focusing on the psychoanalytic theory that relates to shame, splitting, and unconscious conflict. Topics addressed include Freudian theory and the work of Sandor Ferenczi, as well as self-fragmentation and internalization of the aggressor as responses to trauma.

The role of emotional strategies in destructive behavior

Article Abstract:

Violent behavior stems from destructive and malevolent beliefs. Perpetrators feel justified in defending their interests or believe that the victim deserves their fate. In this study, the emotional strategies that are used to repress compassionate feelings and prevent destructive behavior are analyzed using the case study of a violent woman.

Ego atrophy in substance abuse: addiction from a socio-cultural perspective

Article Abstract:

The effect alcoholism on the ego function are examined. The addiction eventually overwhelms all other desires of the ego. Treatment using regression to the point when the addiction took over is suggested, as are an examination of defense mechanisms of denial and projection.
