Architects present Rome with 'The Church of the Year 2000.' (architectural design competition)

Article Abstract:

Rome's Vicary started an architectural design competition to design a church that provides congregations with a place of worship and a social center for the community. The churches were to be designed for a piece of land in the Casilino quarter of Rome, about half a mile from the official end of the city. Architect Richard Meier's design was chosen because it effectively blended the spiritual and social aspects of the project.

Bitter songs from the desert

Article Abstract:

Photographer Richard Misrach is known for his large-plate photographs of the American desert in his opus 'Desert Cantos.' He defends himself against the criticism that he is bleak with the contention that difficult ideas are contained within beauty. Aside from pure landscapes, Misrach photographs disturbing fixtures such as energy plants, military bases, and nuclear test sites within the landscape.
