Organizing a literary journal as the world changed: the formation of 'Archipelago www.archipelago.org' post-1989

Article Abstract:

The author describes her experience of changing careers from being an author to publisher of an electronic periodical containing opinion, literature, and essays on the arts. The process of soliciting content, continuing popularity after 5 years, and developing the publication as a non-profit corporation are discussed.

The tyranny of the monograph and the plight of the publisher

Article Abstract:

College teachers in the humanities are under increasing pressure to publish scholarship proving their academic worth, leading to the end of the tenure monograph. Scholars should be given tenure so they have the leisure to produce good books rather than awarding tenure because they have published.
