Premium value; Type Director with Premier Collection

Article Abstract:

HP and Agfa Compugraphics Division's Type Director is a fast, easy-to-use font creation and management program for use with HP Laserjet printers. Together with 12 fonts, the package is called the Premier Collection and costs $225. Type Director alone is $95. Compared to Fontware, Type Director's faces are a bit heavier and jagged in small point sizes, but the program was able to created eight decorative fonts and matching Windows screen fonts in two sizes in four and a half minutes, while Fontware took up to 10 minutes for one size of one typeface. Type Director generates fonts from four to 200 points large in half-point increments in printer, screen or landscape fonts. The font management features include the ability to identify and download any Laserjet-compatible font, disk storage tracking and the ability to create custom and extended character sets. Fifty additional typefaces are planned by the end of 1990.

Uncommon fractions: using Type Foundry to make PC fractions

Article Abstract:

Zsoft's Publisher's Type Foundry is the best microcomputer program for creating a font of fractions and their screen versions. This special font can then be used with Ventura or Pagemaker and a Postscript printer. Step one is to find a source for the characters and its better to start with one of Type Foundry's 11 outline fonts. After the outline font has been opened its ready for the fractions to be added. A keyboard character or extended ASCII character can be replaced with the newly generated fraction. Each fraction must be individually assembled in Type Foundry. Then, it is changed into printer and screen fonts your application can use.
