Strange bedfellows: previously all-Mac companies add PCs and find out the two can get along fine

Article Abstract:

Many companies that perform desktop publishing, exemplified by Claris Corp and Quark Inc, are adding IBM PC-type microcomputers to their previously all-Macintosh computing environments. These companies are finding that integrating PCs into their working process is not as difficult as they expected because of the several factors. These include the similarity of the Windows graphical user interface to the Macintosh interface, the availability of more powerful PCs and the increasing number of important cross-platform productivity applications. Both Claris and Quark added IBM-type PCs to their companies because the software publishers felt their employees needed experience with the systems if their products were to be taking seriously in the Windows market. How the two companies addressed such problems as getting Mac users to use PCs, training requirements, ensuring hardware and file compatibility and connectivity is described.
