Article Abstract:

Font management in work groups is frequently a problem, but it can be avoided by implementing a few rules. These include using only fonts purchased by the company and banning the use of fonts provided by users, using only PostScript Type I fonts and banning the use of TrueType fonts, and placing all fonts in specific font folders on users' hard drives. Fonts that are employed only for a specific project should be located in the projects folder only. Microsoft products are known to prefer specific fonts and will trash fonts without asking. Several font management applications are available commercially and Extensis Suitcase Server offers font management for workgroups.

FrameMaker takes a cautious step forward

Article Abstract:

Adobe Systems offers Adobe FrameMaker 6.0, a refined version of the file format management application with several important new editing features. Although the basic interface has not been altered, the new version does offer an improved book interface that enables a drag and drop approach to file reordering. The program also features a book-wide search capability that utilizes a dialog box and radio button structure. One drawback of the program is that it cannot yet import XML, limiting its applicability for XML publishing.
