To protect & serve

Article Abstract:

Digital rights management (DRM) is a firewall technology that is expected to play a critical role in the protection and management of content distribution in the digital marketplace. Industry security experts advise companies planning to enter the electronic commerce arena that they should incorporate DRM into their business models. Digimarc employs a technique called the digital watermark, which acts as both an inventory control and copyright and licensing service. Alchemedia employs the Clever Content DRM service to actually stop the unauthorized distribution of intellectual content. MediaDNA uses its eMediator DRM product to protect content on the Web. Reciprocal Publishing offers a comprehensive DRM solution.

G r 8: taking a print workflow online

Article Abstract:

Gr8, a Baltimore-based design firm, was formed in the early '90s by the joining of Graffito and Active8. Their workflow is managed online. By exchanging files and feedback online, they save both time and shipping costs, increasing productivity across the board. They developed a CD-ROM presentation for ESPN Magazine and a video/animation project for the Pepsi Center in Denver. Print projects fill about 20% of their total workflow, with 70% dedicated to Web based design. The firm is split into marketing, design, and technology departments, each dedicated to keeping the firm in the lead of new media.

Make way for MAM

Article Abstract:

Media asset management (MAM) systems can be used for more than just organizing a library of images. Companies can use MAM systems to keep track of rights and royalties, search the web for infringements, and organize all of their digital media assets, allowing them to add their digital library to the company's valuation. MAM systems can be used to organize media in a way that optimizes one-to-one marketing efforts and e-commerce solutions. With easier access to the media they need, employees' productivity can increase sharply with the implementation of a MAM.
