Article Abstract:

Utility programs perform tasks and mundane functions often overlooked when software developers are designing new applications. Some utilities perform a particular task while others are compilations of several small programs. A directory of utility programs for the Apple Macintosh, IBM PC-compatibles and Unix systems is provided. Utilities are categorized as: add-in-on utilities, templates, file conversion, font management, file management, laser printer utilities, screen capture, special screen displays and Ventura utilities. The directory also includes the publisher's name and address and the product's list price.

A directory of videotapes, audio cassettes, training software and books that aid in the self-instruction process is provided. Some educational tools provide instruction in the use of the following applications: PageMaker, Xerox Ventura Publisher, WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, WordStar, XyWrite and MacWrite.
