Duke Power has come up with an innovative method of promoting economic development in North Carolina and South Carolina. The company surrenders 50 percent of its profits from electricity sales, part of which is utilized to reduce the interest burden on industrial customers, making them more competitive. The fund is also used to promote education and training programs in the regions and to subsidize the power bills of low-income customers.

The Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation is a public private partnership for economic development of the county. The main purpose of the MBREDC is to create jobs and enhance the tax base.
