Andersen Consulting's office program for managers employs just-in-time concepts

Article Abstract:

Andersen Consulting, which handles information technology consulting services of Arthur Andersen and Co, conducted a study on the occupancy level of its offices. Prior to this, the need for more space offices led to the shared office program. Results of the study indicated occupancy level was at 25% on any given day and this led to an extension of the shared office project, which is patterned after the just-in-time (JIT) inventory systems of manufacturing companies. The partial JIT program was an unqualified success and led to its use in all the offices of the company.

Real estate development and services firms should take advantage of the increase in economic growth and property markets in the Asia Pacific region. The economies of Hong Kong, Malaysia, South Korea and Taiwan are expected to improve further. On the other hand, the economies of Japan and Singapore have slowed down but are forecasted to improve in the next few years. The potential for industrial development in Southeast Asia should encourage real estate firms to invest there and lend their technical expertise.
