Appealing thoughts

Article Abstract:

The UK Uniform Business Rate (UBR) was launched in 1990, and businesses are able to appeal against the rate set. Smaller companies may have difficulty appealing, but there are experts to provide them with advice. Hotels are often affected by overassessment, and the appeal procedure is complex, so surveyors may be useful in providing help with technical details. Charges vary, with some surveyors asking for an initial fee and an additional fee of the proportion of funds saved.

Catch up with market change

Article Abstract:

It is vital that UK surveyors accept that significant changes are taking place in the property market. If they fail to accept and adapt to change, then clients will go elsewhere and the future of the surveying profession as a whole will be in danger. Surveyors must now grasp the new business opportunities that are arising as many companies find themselves in inappropriate properties with no option but to sublet as leases cannot easily be assigned or surrendered.

DTZ grabs market share in nationwide ranking

Article Abstract:

DTZ Debenham Thorpe is the topy surveying firm according to the Economic Development Briefing index of commercial surveying firms. However the index shows that even the leading firms have a market share of less than 4% and that the market for commercial property services is fragmented. This has led to fears of further rationalisation and redundancies in the industry.
