Article Abstract:

The midyear meeting of the The Counselors of Real Estate highlighted the interconnectedness of the world economy and put into proper perspective recent and current economic forces for better mapping of corporate strategies. The group, an association of real estate consultants, held the meeting in Seattle, WA, on Apr 18-21, 1999. Other important points raised by the speakers were the need for uniform financial standards, oversight of huge fund transfers and the introduction of market reforms that would minimize the impact of economic crises.

Corporate real estate executives are recognizing the advantages of using computer systems and adopting various strategies to enhance assets. Topping the list of these important benefits is the ability to determine for senior management the real or possible savings that are likely to come out from improving business plans. Real estate executive should become more aware of the strategic role that technology plays. Also, vendors must have the ability to connect varied business systems to core real estate functions.

Behind the CRE-GIS disconnect

Article Abstract:

Real estate executives should realize the potential that geographic information systems (GIS) can offer to the real estate industry. GIS mapping technology and proprietary databases are capable of monitoring land uses and users on behalf of multi-site users that are planning to expand. One impediment to using GIS technology is the lack of commmercial appraisal data on which to develop GIS and other analytical applications.
