Block busting

Article Abstract:

The UK's Cinemas Act 1985 requires all cinemas to hold a licence from the appropriate borough or district council. The name of an individual must be used when applying for a cinema licence, so most large companies make applications in the name of the cinema's manager or an operations, or a director. Applicants must give 28 days notice to the fire authority, the licensing authority and the chief of police that they intend to apply for a licence. The sale of alcohol in a cinema must be separately licensed through a justice's on-licence.
