Breakthrough projects: opening up new location gateways

Article Abstract:

The growing trend of establishing new location gateways indicates an important change in industry location patterns. Areas worldwide are obviously demanding for breakthrough projects, to attract suppliers and related industries. In Canada, for instance, call center site selectors which have served the increasing call volume for the past years have resulted to Canadian deregulation. Companies which are new to a certain market also smash the location mold while high-tech breakthroughs often require expensive facilities and hundreds of well-paying jobs.

Incentives are important, executives say, but business concerns drive the location process

Article Abstract:

A survey conducted in Dec 1991 and Jan 1992 among corporate real estate managers revealed that incentives have increasingly become an important criterion in the selection of corporate locations although they were still not considered the chief factor influencing the final decision. Ninety-seven percent of respondents indicated that although their firms were offered incentives, business considerations still determined the decision outcome. Incentives were more useful as a tie-breaker during decision deadlocks.

The high-tech edge: whether bleeding or leading, it's transforming business expansion

Article Abstract:

The process of selecting industrial location is modernized by high technology such as World Wide Web sites and CD-ROMS of economic development groups. These innovations enable real estate executives to conduct the initial steps of the process without actually going to the site. They also facilitate the process by reducing the search duration and providing useful knowledge. Site Selection's SiteNet, for example, enables access to similar Web sites and provides guidelines for selecting strategic locations.
