Can't pay, won't stay

Article Abstract:

Surveying companies are finding that they are competing for staff against accountants, such as KPMG, and management consultants which are branching out into property management. Surveying firms also find that they train their staff only to have them leave and go to another company which can offer more experience. Surveying firms need to target graduates and put them through ACP and offer good career prospects, ensure that promotion is decided on merit and that they are given interesting work to do. Accountants and banks offer better salaries and this is unlikely to change.

The right man for the job

Article Abstract:

Robert Smith, the managing director of recruitment consultant, Hays Montrose, says that they are getting many more approaches from surveyors than they used to because surveying companies are now using recruitment companies to select applicants for posts. Companies also employ temporary staff who can be released if business gets slack. Salaries are increasing each year and a good car is often included in the package. The retail market is desperate for good, experienced staff and Hays Montrose enjoys the challenge of looking for suitable candidates.

Article Abstract:

Young surveyors seeking employment should produce a good curriculum vitae (CV), which should be prepared specially for each job application. The CV needs to create a good impression and include factors which make a candidate look special with a view to obtaining an interview. It should include examination results and details of relevant experience. Negative factors should be omitted. Candidates need to develop a technique for interviews.
