Change of priority

Article Abstract:

A study looking into the requirements of major firms with offices in the West End, London, England, found they were looking for flexible office space which could accomodate new technology. The participants in the study wanted offices which were near their clients but also were a good advertisement for their company. Over 50% were concerned about the location of the offices. Space to park employees cars was not seen as an important factor. The research was undertaken by King Sturge during 1999, and included nine companies from the major industries.

Industrial exposure

Article Abstract:

There is a strong office and clerical economy in Taunton, England, but the town has seen almost no growth in industrial space during the 1990s. Several sites allocated for employment uses are now being developed for housing. Some experts believe that the redevelopment of the Taunton Trading Estate into a mainly residential scheme will cause further damage to the town's industrial stock. In the office property market, most of the activity has been around junction 25 of the M5.

Shoppers with a difference

Article Abstract:

There has been a large volume of activity in the UK retail property sector. Indeed, the overall value of acquisitions and mergers more than doubled in 1997 from 1996 to 3.24 billion pounds sterling. For supermarkets, a merger presents an attractive opportunity to significantly boost geographical spread. However, there can be serious problems with duplicity of stores. For other retailers, disposals can give good opportunities for portfolio deals.
