Developers shortlisted but doubt shadows Snow Hill

Article Abstract:

The planned Snow Hill scheme in central Birmingham, UK, is seen as a valuable opportunity for extending the city core. Leading developers London and Regional, Richardson Barberry Properties, Helical Bar and AMEC Developments have now been shortlisted for the project, and will soon make more detailed presentations to Railtrack, which owns the land. However, even those closely involved with the scheme admit that there could be difficulties, particularly with the surrounding buildings, which will place limitations on the design.

Individualism makes a comeback

Article Abstract:

Latest developments in cordless telecommunications and data transfer will mean that office buildings will no longer have to be designed around accommodating large amounts of cabling. New workplace designs are likely to be simpler and more flexible, with furniture and fittings also adapting to this trend. Latest offices are now using a unstructured collection of furniture pieces which can be adapted to specific tasks and work patterns.

Are we being served?

Article Abstract:

Competition amongst surveyors is currently very strong due to an oversupply of practitioners and less work. Extensive fee-cutting might ruin the reputation of the profession, according to Richard Lay, chairman of DTZ Debenham Thorpe. Surveyors have gone too far in cost-cutting, says Donald Andrews, chemical company Laporte's international estates manager.
