Doomed to delay

Article Abstract:

There is still considerable controversy surrounding the urban development plan for Leeds, England. There is anger among the landowners whose sites were among the 172.8 ha recommended for deletion from the category of employment land. The decision by planning inspectors to extend the lifetime of the urban development plan beyond the original 2006 to 2016 has not been universally welcomed in the area. Other areas of concern include the fact that several sites supported by the inspectors come within the statutory green belt category or are categorized as interim green belt.

State of flux

Article Abstract:

English Partnerships (EP) administer government grants for development projects, particularly in areas such as Merseyside, England, where 25 million pounds sterling is spent each year. The government are considering abolishing EP and introducing regional development agencies but some observers believe that the non-political stance of EP contributes to its success. The renovation of Liverpool city-centre has been very important project for EP which is working with the local council to find the best approach to tackle urban problems and land usage.

Let the good times roll

Article Abstract:

The city of Leeds, England, is seeing particular demand for leisure property such as pubs. Almost every suitably large unit on the outskirts of the business area has now been taken, and leisure properties are now set to start appearing in a wider area. Cinema chains are also targeting Leeds as a prime location in West Yorkshire.
