The D&B breakup: stocks up, synergies down, a real estate reform shadowed

Article Abstract:

The breakup of Dun and Bradstreet Corp. (D&B) into three separate entities as part of its reorganization plan has caught its top executives by surprise. Some expressed confusion regarding the move because D&B just launched a real estate drive after an analysis showed that it was spending over $309 million annually for occupancy costs alone. Part of this drive was relocating the company headquarters in Wilton, CT, and sharing the facilities in its six offices in Atlanta, GA. D&B CEO Robert Weissman says the dissolution was the only way for the company to maintain its shareholder value, but refused to give the details of the strategy.

'Real Estate Value Management' fuels IBM's globalization

Article Abstract:

Risk management and the need to make consistent insightful investments in corporate property assets are at the heart of IBM's Real Estate Value Management program. The program allows each IBM unit in foreign countries a consistent measure of investments in factories and building upgrades. The program is consistent with IBM's overall business planning and financial practices and has been made easy to use by placing the program in the Lotus Notes platform.
