Fertile fields for plastics

Article Abstract:

Southern Ohio has established itself in the plastic industry, accounting for $15 bil a year in plastics shipments. The maturity of the plastics industry in Southern Ohio is reflected in its workforce, employing some 100,000 workers. Goodyear is one of the investors in the area, whose plant in Jackson County manufactures fiberglass reinforced plastic parts for cars and heavy trucks. Vinyl Kraft, a manufacturer of vinyl windows, also relies on Southern Ohio's dependable labor force to manufacture high-quality vinyl windows. Vinyl Kraft grew to a business doing 60,000 windows a year with 120 employees.

Whither plastics? Plant location criteria as diverse as products

Article Abstract:

The site selection requirements of plastic manufacturers vary greatly from one another, reflecting the manufacturing requirements of each kind of specialty plastics and the target market of each product. The industry is most sensitive to skilled labor requirements, more than transportation routes or proximity to markets. The industry is consolidating its relocations to the southern states to take advantage of the region's skilled labor and low wages.

Tips for siting new plastics plants

Article Abstract:

Plastics manufacturers should take into account local population expertise, government aid and business organization assistance in determining site selection processes for new facilities. These factors can significantly increase profitability of new plastics plants as it would help companies contact local suppliers, contact local expertise and avail of local business aid programs.
