All hands to the pump

Article Abstract:

The privatisation of the government controlled utilities and a more competitive market has resulted in the growth of new telecommunications, water, gas and electricity companies moving into the market place. The supply of water is being taken up by a few companies, particularly for large users. The gas and electricity industries will be fully competitive by 1998. Some new companies plan to offer integrated gas and electricity supplies. Supermarkets are also examining ways to become involved in selling energy supplies. In the telecommunications industry competition has been slow.
