Article Abstract:

Cambridge is a world-famous university town and is also renowned for its high-tech companies, its business park and a booming economy. However, the city is faced with many infrastructure problems, the most pressing of which is traffic volume. At a recent round table debate, Cambridge city council's director of planning, Peter Studdert,announced plans to extend the city's commuter car-parking tax to roads leading to its peripheral business and science parks.

Reluctant passengers

Article Abstract:

Cambridge residents are not only dissatisfied with their public transport services, but also with plans for commuter car-parking charges. The council is seeking to generate a revenue of some 15 million pounds sterling a year from its 17,000 private parking spaces, although it has not yet been decided whether employees or employers will incur the charge.

The leisure provision in the centre of Leeds, England requires, updating although the restaurant and bar market is very strong. Leisure development in Birmingham, England, has been very active particularly with the construction of Brindleyplace. Some other areas of the city, around the Arcadian Centre, need renovating. Retail and leisure in the centre of Newcastle, England, is very good, More leisure outlets are included in the Quayside development. Manchester, England, offers a wide range of venues for leisure pursuits, with a new 400,000 sq ft development under construction.
