It's chips ahoy for Site Selection's top 10 development projects

Article Abstract:

The semiconductor industry seems to have replaced automotives as a major catalyst for economic development. The industry is expected to post $350 billion by the year 2000, a vast increase from 1995's $180 billion. Five of the top 10 development projects chosen by Site Selection magazine belong to the semiconductor industry, including JVC Disc America, Micron Technology, SEH America, Siemens and Toshiba/IBM. Other winners include Fidelity Investments, Gateway 2000, Industri Pesawat Terbang Nusantara, Motorola and Toyota.

Site Selection's 1994 top deals: gobs of global jobs

Article Abstract:

The top 10 development projects for 1994 will create an average of 1,525 new jobs, twice as many as the jobs created by 1993's top 10 development deals. Most of the projects feature highly-sophisticated manufacturing processes for products such as the revolutionary 'Swatchmobile,' cellular phones, biopharmaceutical drugs for the treatment of asthma, cancer and arthritis, rolled steel, batteries for consumer electronic products, kitchen faucets, computer monitors, microwave ovens and ranges.
