Keeping on the right side of the law

Article Abstract:

Within the European Union, the storage of goods in warehouses is governed by several laws and regulations. In particular, the storage of sensitive goods, such as temperature controlled foods or hazardous chemicals, is fully regulated. Temperature-sensitive goods must be stored in insulated buildings that are temperature-regulated, while staff must wear protective clothing in order to avoid the possibility of cross-contamination. The main consideration when storing hazardous chemicals is fire prevention and minimisation. In most cases, warehouses should have sprinkler systems and ideally should be located away from housing.

At the heart of the matter

Article Abstract:

The property market in the Midlands region of the UK benefits from the region's role as a major distribution hub, but its influence could be set to wane slightly. The region currently has more large shed national distribution depots than any other UK region, thanks to its position at the heart of the motorway network. However, some firms are now choosing to go slightly southwards and eastwards, where land values are lower. Nonetheless, the region's position as a distribution hub seems certain because of the 'golden triangle' between the M1, M42 and M6 motorways.

How to motivate the money lenders

Article Abstract:

There is steady development activity in the UK distribution shed sector, but institutional investors are unenthusiastic about the sector. The short-term contracts which are common in the distribution sector, the growth in design-and-build projects and the lack of rental growth means that investors are moving more towards mainstream industrial property instead of the distribution sector.
