Keeping thieves out of the high-bay

Article Abstract:

Security features in distribution centres are often incorporated into building designs. The introduction of a high level of security measures may reduce insurance premiums. The initial installation of security measures in a building of 100,000 sq ft would cost around 250,000 pounds sterling with annual charges of 120,000 pounds sterling. Security measures may include a high surrounding fence, a 24-hour gatehouse and the installation of CCTV. Distribution companies who store very valuable commodities may prefer to use outside security firms to provide a high-level of expertise.

Putting meals on wheels

Article Abstract:

Some UK supermarkets are beginning to bring rail into their distribution networks. Their use of rail has so far generally focused on longer distance movements between the north and south. This development will probably encourage property developments around rail-heads. This has already been seen in the 37,160 sq mt distribution hub constructed by Eddie Stobart at Severn Trent's Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal. Railfreight operator EWS is calling on the government to make more land available for sites with inter-modal rail-heads.

Demand in the fast lane

Article Abstract:

There is a shortage of modern, high quality industrial accommodation in West Yorkshire, England, at a time of growing interest from potential occupiers. The new A1-M1 link is playing a role in fuelling demand for industrial property in the area by opening up land to the east of Leeds, England, and improving traffic congestion. Most towns and districts in West Yorkshire are seeing high levels of property transactions. Rents are rising as the availability of high quality stock diminishes.
