LLPs promise liquid gold

Article Abstract:

Property investors in the UK hope to use the government's planned new limited liability partnerships (LLPs) as an instrument for investment. Talks are being held to try to persuade the government to confirm that LLPs will be tax transparent when used to invest in property. The draft bill currently being considered by the House of Lords proposes no limit on the number of partners allowed by the new structure, and there is no restriction on the partners' management powers. There is widespread agreement among property consultants, investors and lawyers that LLPs offer significant opportunities.

Redwood plays the green card

Article Abstract:

United Kingdom Conservative Party Shadow Environment Secretary John Redwood acknowledges his party's new environment and planning policy is very different from their past policies. The Conservatives want 66% of new houses to be e built on brownfield land. Redwood calls for the regional planning authorities to be abolished. He wants dealings between the local authorities and developers to be made more open. Redwood points out many people want to live in towns rather than in the green belt. He suggests the government will not keep to having 60% of new houses built on brownfield land.
