Green lobby sees red

Article Abstract:

The UK government's decision to shift to a 'plan, manage and monitor' approach to housing provision, with county councils planning future provision in broad terms, will not apply in Devon, England, where the old 'predict and provide' approach will be used. East Devon council has proposed two possible sites near Exeter, England, for new housing. However, it will be more difficult to find a site for the government's proposed new settlement of 2,600 homes near Plymouth, England.

Key DOE research loses out to 'other priorities.' (DOE has still not commissioned research into impact of out-of-town superstores)

Article Abstract:

The DOE is only just beginning to undertake research into the impact of out-of-town superstores on market towns and district centres, even though it has been acknowledged for some time that such research is needed. The DOE has stated that other priorities have forced this work to be postponed. Critics point out that this has meant that the assumptions underlying the new PPG6 have been untested.
