Learning how to play the game

Article Abstract:

There is a large amount of European Union (EU) funding available for property development but obtaining it is far from straightforward. European structure funds have been established to encourage economic compatibility between the different regions as well as providing assistance for rebuilding areas where traditional industries are in decline. Despite its availability, many factors combine to deter both developers and agents from applying for EU money. The many levels of bureaucracy, local politics and lack of information serve to form barriers between potential applicants and funding.

Oiling the wheels of industry

Article Abstract:

The West Midlands region of England is seeing a return of speculative real estate developments as demand increases and good industrial sites become scarce. The car industry is helping to boost demand, and companies in the industry seek to locate close to each other to coordinate deliveries and meet tight schedules. There is reluctance to take on sites which could be contaminated following changes proposed in the Environment Bill, so greenfield sites are more in demand.

Shifting the emphasis

Article Abstract:

There are still long-term political difficulties to be overcome in Northern Ireland, but the property industry is particularly concerned with economic issues. Efforts are already being made to encourage inward investment, and Northern Ireland is set to receive a large amount of international funding. The industrial property market in Belfast itself remains weak, but there are indications of a revival in industrial growth elsewhere.
