Mobil takes small steps to big cost reductions

Article Abstract:

Mobil Corp.'s Real Estate Services Dept. is spearheading a company-wide move to reduce work space and occupancy costs for the facilities it maintains in more than 100 countries. To date, it has implemented the one-size-fits-all 'universal office' to minimize office churn and the Random Use Work Space program to encourage employees who are on field assignment more than 50% of the time to share their offices. At present, it is considering shifting certain employees to home-based offices and planning to halve its office space dedicated to filing and storage of information.
