No bar to retail plans

Article Abstract:

Retailers in Oxford, England, fear their businesses will be harmed by local transportation policies, with some 56% of retailers reporting a decline in their takings. The local authorities are trying to restrict the use of the car in the city. Some observers point out several retailers are looking to expand their outlets, with rents for prime units at around 225 pounds sterling per sq ft. Plans to expand the Westgate Centre, worth 220 million pounds sterling, are due to be sent to the planning authorities. Oxford retailers are facing competition from the Oracle centre in Reading, England.
