International call centers

Article Abstract:

The call center industry was wroth US$54 billion in early 1998 in North America. By 2003, the number of call centers in the United States is forecast to reach about 98,000. While the U.S. has the lead, the industry is expanding around the globe because of bottom-line business concerns. The number one location factor for call centers is labor because the success of a center is greatly dependent upon the quality and skill of the staff. Also of major importance are broadband data communication capability and costs. A review of the recent call center location activity in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia is provided.
