Now we're cooking

Article Abstract:

The out-of-town retail development in Stockton-on-Tees, England, is proving popular but the Wellington Square shopping mall in the town centre is still not completed. Demand for retail outlets in Redcar, Teesside, England, is also good. Middlesbrough, England, has been experiencing a revival of its town centre with some older shopping malls undergoing renovation work. Local agents anticipate the newly built Captain Cook retail centre will encourage out-of-town retailers to move into the town. Rents in the development are expected to be around 150 pounds sterling per sq ft by 2000.

City gets a retail bonus

Article Abstract:

The City of London, England, has become a favoured area for all types of food bars despite the limited trading hours. Consumer demand from workers in the City of London has caused the demand for retail space to rise. There has been concern shops would not have sufficient trade throughout the week to be profitable. Yet shoppers from areas outside the City, such as Islington, are coming to the City shops at weekends. Several of the major retailers are looking for space in the area causing rents to rise to up to 200 pounds sterling per sq ft.
