Out and about in the towns

Article Abstract:

Mixed trends are being seen in the retail property sector in Lancashire, England. Preston, England, is attracting fashion-conscious shoppers, particularly following the completion of the second phase of the refurbishment and extension of the St George's Centre. However, this scheme has had a negative impact on the retail sector in Blackpool, England. There has been little threat from local out-of-town developments in Lancaster, England, but this town has been negatively affected by more attractive developments in neighbouring towns.

Helical Retail's proposals include 14,864 sq mt of retail space and 28 residential units. This company is optimistic that the scheme will go ahead, and plans full opening by Christmas 2002. However, opponents highlight the fact that the scheme does not have an anchor tenant.
