Overseas funds lead the chase for MetroCentre

Article Abstract:

The Gateshead MetroCentre in England has a value estimated at more than 300 million pounds sterling, and will be sold by the Church Commissioners. The purchaser of this retail development may be a consortium due to its high value which is more than individual funds from the UK are likely to be able to pay. Overseas groups may also be interested in acquiring a stake. This is the most profitable asset belonging to the Church Commissioners and represents 35% of their real estate assets.

Ashcroft thwarted in bid to blitz shopping eyesore

Article Abstract:

Portsmouth city council has unexpectedly failed to grant permission to developer Ashcroft Estates to demolish the Tricorn Shopping Centre, which was built in the 1960s and is now mostly empty. This could be the result of a 50 million pounds sterling grant from the National Lottery Fund to develop the city's harbour area, which would make Ashcroft's plans for the site unsuitable.
