Performance driven

Article Abstract:

A national distribution centre for BT PLC is being constructed on the Magna Park development site at Lutterworth, Leicestershire, England, at a cost of 28 million pounds sterling. The distribution centre will be in full operation by mid-1998. It is planned that the centre will supply all the requirements of BT engineers, but it will result in the closure of the 20 distribution centres already situated in the regions. Magna Park developers have agreed to build a much needed bypass at a cost of 10 million pounds sterling following their successful negotiations with BT.

Freeman plots 200m pounds sterling super-freight terminal

Article Abstract:

A 185,800 sq mt high-tech railfreight centre is planned by Argent Projects, a joint venture between Argent Group and the Freeman brothers, on land between the Colnbrook bypass and the M4 to the west of Heathrow Airport, England. This is greenbelt land, but Argent hopes that it will be able to argue that the project forms part of the government's aim to move freight from road to rail. It is estimated that the site could handle up to 250,000 containers a year.
