Property besieged

Article Abstract:

The property market is now having to deal with a deep-seated recession following a number of years of spectacular expansion in the second half of the 1980s. Property and property owners have been greatly affected by the growing volume of environmental protection legislation, and owners often feel that they are being unfairly targeted. However, it is wrong to feel that the property market is being excessively criticised, and the main problem is simply the fact that property owners are unduly sensitive.

Digital introduced the flexible office six years ago, employing teleworkers who operate from home or from clients' offices communicating with colleagues by phone and electronic mail. It has enabled the company to reduce its property costs by 25% and it is aiming to cut its ofice portfolio even further. IBM has also made cost savings by introducing hot-desking systems with home based employees

Pension funds find a property solution

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the investment of pension funds in property, rather than shares, are discussed. The advantages and drawbacks of investing in commercial property in a Self-Invested Personal Pension Scheme are examined.
