R & R becomes big business

Article Abstract:

Property investors are becoming increasingly interested in the leisure sector as new out-of-town leisure developments attract large numbers of customers. Marylebone Warwick Balfour has announced plans for a 120 million pounds sterling leisure fund, for example, while Burford Group is to float the Trocadero entertainment centre, using the money raised to invest in other leisure schemes. It is believed that there is up to 1 billion pounds sterling available to be invested in out-of-town leisure developments.

Bristol tests Gummer's latest leisure guidelines

Article Abstract:

The UK secretary of state for the environment will examine proposals by THI to build a multiplex at north Bristol, Avon, England. The site is owned by Mercury Asset Management. John Gummer, secretary of state, has recommended that leisure developments be located in central urban areas rather than on the outskirts. There is some confusion over this recommendation which is focused on retail developments. The THI proposal is thus seen as a test case for the new guidelines.

BT rings round for shed space

Article Abstract:

British Telecom is believed to be planning to establish a national call centre, and is therefore seeking shed space in the north of Britain. It is looking for up to five warehouses, each offering around 11,150 sq mt. Offices will account for around a third of each floorplate, with the rest remaining open-plan. This approach will make the company more competitive against mobile phone operators.
