Shortages stymie demand

Article Abstract:

Industrial investment in Birmingham, England, is being curtailed by a lack of suitable land for development. Some brownfield sites are available but these are often contaminated. Business enterprises already situated in the Birmingham area are finding it difficult to relocate or expand. Some local agents suggest that the situation would be eased if the northern relief road was built whilst others call for the release of greenfield sites for industrial development. Land prices remain stable at around 5 pounds sterling per sq ft for a medium -sized building despite the lack of land.

New vein of growth

Article Abstract:

The Dearne Valley enterprise zone in South Yorkshire, England, is undergoing massive redevelopment to change the former mining area into a prime site for commercial investment. The project has been funded by a combination of private investment and public funding of some 176 million pounds sterling. Three Korean companies are planning to move into the area which covers over 1,600 acres. Outside the enterprise zones industrial development has been slow although local agents forecast that demand should improve particularly for quality sites in Sheffield, England.
