South Carolina: where the world comes to do business

Article Abstract:

South Carolina has successfully attracted major multinational corporations. The state has about 504 facilities affiliated with multinational firms from 23 countries. Total foreign investments have reached $16.2 billion by the end of 1997 which has translated into more than 84,000 new jobs. Factors that make South Carolina attractive to multinationals include its favorable business climate, labor availability, competitive operating costs and market access. Foreign firms operating in the state are described.

Site Selection magazine's entry into the information super highway was a highly successful event, as proven by the 1999 Awards for Publications Excellence (APEX). The magazine garnered the top awards for the 'Magazine and Journal Writing' and 'Web Site' categories in a closely-fought competition involving 4,900 participants. These awards represent the fourth consecutive year that Site Selection has gained multiple APEX awards.
