The Ruhr renaissance: an environmental super project

Article Abstract:

Pollution of the 200-mile long Emscher River and industrial sites in the North Rhine-Westphalia region in Germany was a problem until the government and private businesses decided to rehabilitate the region. An economic development and environmental renewal program known as the International Building Exhibition was instituted in 1989 to regenerate the Emscher River and convert the abandoned facilities to working, living and nature areas. About $1.25 billion have been spent since 1991 in various enmvironmental projects.

Environmental risk management: protecting your assets

Article Abstract:

Proactive environmental risk management programs decrease the likelihood of accidents, increase worker productivity, minimize or prevent pollution and increase cost savings. Companies who have well planned environmental programs would also be saved from criminal and civil liabilities associated with environmental policy noncompliance. The risk management plan should have three components which are hazard assessment, accidental release prevention program and emergency response schemes.
