The U.S. Southeast: red-hot region turns up heat in location competition

Article Abstract:

Most Southeast states, such as South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Kentucky, are ranked as the current hottest spots in facility location. From 1990-1995, the region accounted for nearly 40% of the total of new and expanded facilities in the US. While Alabama offers yet-untapped natural resources, efficient transportation system and attractive incentives, Delaware boasts low operating costs, responsive government leaders and a competent labor force. On the other hand, both Florida and Georgia lure businesses through tax incentives and tax credits.

The U.S. Southeast: a recipe for success

Article Abstract:

The strategic advantages offered by the southeastern states are enhanced by the region's skilled labor force, low operating costs, pro-business environment and high quality of life. A number of state officials in the southeast states believe that the growth of corporate relocations to the region will result in a healthier mix of diversified industries that could only spell growth for the states. The southeast has attracted about 6,036 new and expanded facilities between 1990 and 1996, with North Carolina leading the other southeastern states in relocations.
